Receiving poor or unethical treatment from your insurance company?

Insurance companies are organizations that are bound by a code of ethics. Insurance adjusters that work there have to be empathetic and professional when working with their clients. If you received poor service from an insurance adjuster or you feel as though you’ve been unethically treated you might be interested in learning more about the code of ethics that insurance claims adjusters need to follow in order to keep their jobs in good standing.

The code of ethics:

  • Insurance claims professionals are working within the public trust and this means maintaining proper standards of integrity so that levels of public trust can be established for the industry.
  • Professionals must only seek information that they deem to be relevant and need to make sure that this information is delivered in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Recognizing the individual rights of clients remains protected and this means properly securing data.
  • Illegal discrimination and personal feelings/prejudices need to be prevented from influencing judgment or claim initiatives.
  • Maintaining sensitive attitudes in interactions is also highly important.
  • Claims professionals also need to obey any regulations and laws related to the process of handling claims or fraudulent practices involving claims.
  • All alternatives to litigation need to be met before an insurance company seeks out litigation to resolve issues related to a claim.

These are just a few of the governing rules that insurance claims professionals are monitoring in themselves and within other people throughout their departments. If you are a policyholder and you are constantly frustrated by the level of service that you are given, you could potentially file a complaint with your insurance company based off of the experience that you had especially on the basis of a poor experience related to some of these ethics-based principles.
